We have two events scheduled that are related to Randy Dupree’s recent loss of his coach by fire.

First, a presentation and demonstration by Jim Sheperd of RV Safety Systems. Jim will be demonstrating his ‘Cold Fire’ fire extinguishers (used by NHRA), and his on-board RV fire detection/suppression system.

Second, Lucas Willemse will discuss fusing of motorhome electrical systems and show how he’s fused his coach to protect against a fire caused by electrical short.

These are only two of the many events that are being planned for the 2010 ‘Q’ Rally. Details of these and all other planned events will be posted soon on the SWBB Quartzsite Rally homepage. Bookmark it and check back often.

091031-NEWS announcement: Curt Sprenger steps down as coordinator

On October 1, 2009, Curt Sprenger officially stepped down as one of the coordinators for SWBB.

Curt organized our first California Bluebird rally in Orange County's Canyon RV Park on March, 2006, after spending many hours building a database of Bluebird owners residing in California and other parts of the Southwest. Curt's tireless efforts brought 22 coaches to the rally. He leaves a group that has grown to over 300 members in less than four years, and that hosts the largest gathering of Bluebird-built motorhomes in the West -- the "ANNUAL BLUEBIRD QUARTZSITE RALLY", held in January of each year in Quartzsite, Arizona.

During the Canyon RV Park rally, he recruited me to help plan and coordinate future rallies. We chose "SOUTHWEST BLUEBIRDS and friends" as the group name ('friends' representing family and friends who own other brands of RV's, and who were welcome to join the group).

Because there was not a Bluebird group represented in the West, we briefly considered affiliating with the FMCA, but after researching their requirements, decided the "KISS" principle would be our guide in planning and coordinating SWBB group activities. In choosing not to formalize the organization of SWBB (electing officers, collecting dues, maintaining a bank account, meeting to discuss and vote on plans, etc., etc., etc.), we took some risks.

Today, the proof that we made the right decision lies in how quickly our mailing list is growing, the increasing participation in our rallies, the growth of our 'ANNUAL BLUEBIRD QUARTZSITE RALLY' (which is now the largest gathering of Bluebird-built motorhomes in the West), and why attendees at our rallies tell us, "This is the way it should be done."

With the departure of Curt, I am pleased to announce that Denise Benson has volunteered to replace him and assist me in coordinating future SWBB activities.

Denise and her husband, Jim, have been strong supporters of 'SWBB' since its inception. They planned and hosted the “Southwest Bluebirds & Furry Friends, Costume and Talent Show” at our 2009 Quartzsite Rally.
