FLYING FLAGS RALLY--2008 recap

FLYING FLAGS-2008

FLYING FLAGS-2008

OUR FLYING FLAGS RALLY -- 2008

IS NOW PART OF HISTORY.

We had 14 Bluebirds and 10 SOB’s in attendance.  Not bad, considering the state of the economy and fuel prices. Coaches ranged in years from 1974 to 2000.

Three attendees are new Bluebirds owners, and were warmly welcomed into the Bluebird family.  They all purchased their coaches within the past six months.  We also had several new SOB attendees.

Flying Flags offers a Friday night Santa Maria style BBQ dinner to guests staying at the park.  This year, instead of our traditional “BYOB, and bring your favorite hors d’oeuvres to share” potluck, everyone bought a BBQ dinner and brought it to the clubhouse.

Saturday morning, Curt and Betty Sprenger hosted a morning coffee and pastry get together.   The rest of the day was free time, with attendees taking off to tour Solvang, do some wine tasting, or simply kicking back and enjoying the pleasant weather.

Saturday night, we had our traditional “BYOB, and bring your favorite hors d’oeuvres to share” potluck.   As usual, the variety of food everyone brought became dinner for the group.  Self- introductions were done and Curt and Phil thanked everyone who attended. Curt advised the group that we have 41 sign ups for our  “SOUTHWEST BLUEBIRDS and friends ANNUAL QUARTZSITE RALLY – 2009”.

Phil announced that Lucas will be buying a new batch of flags and will have them at the Quartzsite Rally.  NOTE:  There is a lead time of 45 days for Lucas to order and receive the flags. That doesn’t leave much time before the Q 2009 rally. Place your order ASAP. If you are interested in buying a flag, go to the flag order page and send us an email.

Lucas also provided some of his technical expertise to some attendees experiencing electrical problems.

New member Kathy Cortez, who owns a store in Pismo Beach, brought some tee shirts that her husband, Joe, designed, and will be modifying the shirt with our group logo for sale to the group.  When the design is finalized, I’ll post an image of it on the web site along with pre-order instructions.

New member Marianne Frost, showed a necklace of a Bluebird coach that a jeweler friend made for her.  She is checking on the possibility of having more made for sale to group members.

Jim & Denise Benson announced the “SOUTHWEST BLUEBIRDS FURRY FRIENDS” costume and talent show that they and Frank Peredo are planning for the Quartzsite Rally.   Details will be posted on the web site soon and an email announcement will be sent.

On Sunday morning, Jim and Linda Marsh hosted a burrito breakfast at their coach.  They have volunteered to host a breakfast at the Quartzsite Rally.

We also received some recommendations for possible rally locations that will be researched for future consideration.

All in all, it was a very successful rally.  Curt and I want to thank all who attended, and for your support.   We especially thanks all those who are volunteering to plan and conduct special activities at our rallies.
